We were away again last week – we had on and off rain but it was still lovely to be out of town and hanging out with some great people. We got home right before the weekend and we had a really nice weekend with Hubs. Although my typical nature is to push the fact that things need to get down around the house, we just hung out. Yes, I did bring up the fact we should work a little….give me a break, I am a work in progress!

We took the bikes out for a ride. We ate good food. We visited family. We relaxed and played and laughed. Gray loved all of it. And so did we.

Now, it is Monday. Although it may seem mundane to some, these types of days are ones I look forward to. Doing laundry, organizing the house after a wonderful few days spent together, preparing for the week. There is beauty in the mundane.

There is something to be said for the ordinary. Piles of laundry that live in our bedrooms. Dishes that never quite made it to the inside of the dishwasher. The sound of little bare feet waddling around the house. Plastic car wheels zooming around my living room. A small, white fluffy dog at my feet.

Everyday ordinary is a whole bunch of extraordinary. It is a blessing to be able to have laundry, cause that means we have clothes. Dirty dishes mean full tummies. It is a blessing to have a house to clean because that means we have a roof over our head. That fluffy dog is a wonderful companion. And lets not forget those beautiful bare feet, best part of my mundane Monday.

build, cabinet, create, desk, paint, to do

On lots of the decor blogs that I have visted often there a list. A to do list. They share their to dos and you can kind of follow along with them as they check off the list. so I thought I would give it a shot. Take into account that I am just a girl who loves DIY. My taste may not be “correct” according to the design world. But hey I still gotta get this list done. And this way I have all of you to be accountable to.

This is the “before pregnant” to do list. I am extremely strict while pregnant. I do not anyone painting in/around the house, Therefore lots of these projects include paint.

– Paint spare kids bedroom
– Paint behind desk in lower living room
– Grout main floor bath
– Tile main floor bath backsplash
– Finish Grays reading nook
– Build barn doors for behind bed
– Build storage boxes on either side of fireplace
– Paint mudroom
– Add board and batten to upstairs bathroom
– Paint basement

We have started on a project that we have wanted to do for a long time. It is not finished, but here are some before and progress photos!

The Before:

I never told you that hubs was a rockstar did I?

This took WAY longer then we thought it would!

And they are up!

So the list for this project includes countertop, paint, hardware. Not too bad, I think the hardest part is over!

Can’t believe it! Our little Gray started walking last week. Although he is 17 months and I suppose he is considered a “late” walker, it went way too fast for this Mama.

He was so proud, we were so proud.

Recharged

away, break, God, guilt, kids, peace, quiet, time

I went away alone last week. Ok, not completely alone. Little Gray and dear dog accompanied me on my adventure. I needed it. Hubs was away for work anyways so I decided to take off.

I have been feeling like my priorities have been a bit skewed. I tend to get really caught in other people, things they want, things they need. Yep, you got it. I am a people pleaser. Honestly, I love helping people. I believe we all have different gifts and different talents. If I can help someone using the things that God blessed me with I want to. But we all need a break sometimes.

I also have a major guilt side. I am guilty when I don’t play with Gray for a few hours on the floor each day. I feel guilty when I don’t make an effort and prepare a “real” breakfast instead of just tossing a piece of jammed up toast on his high chair. I feel guilty when I rush through a nursing session because I have other things to do. Maybe you feel this way? Or I am weird like this, either way I am working on it.

So off we went to spend time playing on the floor, chasing each other around the cabin that our family so dearly loves. We had a great time. We slept late, lingered over meals and I let him watch a few more cartoons than usual. He napped in the afternoons and guess what? So did I! It was fantastic. I got to read and play the silly computer games that I love even though no one understands why. I got to mull over photos and edit my favorites.

It was a good week. I came home recharged. I think it is important to take a break every now and then. This week I also came away with some wisdom in the fact that things don’t need to be perfect. Despite my imperfections, my son is happy. He is loved and he sure does love jammed up toast!

I though this bible verse was fitting:
Acts 20:28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

Cool right? What I took away from this verse is that we all need to take of ourselves. I don’t mean that everyone should just rush off to the woods for some downtime! But that we need to care for ourselves too. Whether it is physically, getting out to the gym or taking a quiet walk. Whether it is emotionally and we just need a good cry or a graceful ear to listen. Maybe you need a mental challenge, learn a new skill or take a class. Or whether it is spiritually, praying and spending time with Lord. I think this verse is referring to all of it. Afterall if we don’t take care of ourselves how can you care for others?

I am also not taking solely about Moms and Dads. I am taking about ALL of us! You might be caring for an ill parent, a sibling, a friend. You may have a house full of furry creatures that take all of your energy and you just sometimes need a breather. All of us care for someone or something. Maybe you are devoting your life to a passion. Or you working for a charity or a cause that you love. In the midst of it all remember to take of yourself and then your flock.
